2001-2007
THE STARTUP PHASE
Squeaky Wheel was launched by friends in the wake of the September 11th attacks on New York City. We set out to build an agency rooted in a commitment to clients, employees, and delivering the highest caliber of work.
What started as a group of individuals quickly grew to 10, pioneering digital projects at the dawn of the Internet. In these early years, we built a dynamic client base with standout partners like SoBe Beverages and Simon Premium Outlets, which set the foundation for the future.
2008-2014
THE SPACE THAT FUELED OUR CULTURE
As Squeaky grew, we invested in what mattered most, our team. We built a unique office space that celebrated our talent and the culture behind our success. We understood early on that a healthy work-life balance was essential for creating an environment where people could thrive. As our team expanded, so did our client base, positioning Squeaky as an award-winning, independent agency, competing with some of the biggest names in the industry.
While we received many awards over the years, one of our proudest achievements was being named Small Agency of the Year at the inaugural Culture Awards. This recognition solidified Squeaky’s leadership in prioritizing employee happiness and cultivating a positive, fulfilling workplace culture.
2015-2025
FROM LOCAL TO GLOBAL
Over the past decade, Squeaky reached new heights. We grew our workforce to its largest size and launched several market-leading brands and categories. This period also brought continued recognition, especially with the launch of IHadCancer.com, a cancer support network that quickly became one of the most engaged communities for people facing a cancer diagnosis—spawned from our VP’s shocking and successful battle with the disease. Honored by the Webby Awards for Community, IHC won the top prize three times over a five-year span, reflecting the impact of its mission.
During this time, we also laid the foundation for Squeaky’s future by establishing a decentralized workforce across the United States and El Salvador, in three cities. This approach, which predated the current work-from-home trend, was driven by our belief that employees would be more productive and fulfilled if they had the flexibility to balance their work with their personal lives. As we’ve evolved alongside the industry, Squeaky has consistently adapted to new challenges, all while staying true to our core mission: creating exceptional work, nurturing talent, and always looking ahead to what’s next.
Squeaky dedicates over 10% of its efforts to making the world a better place. Besides its commitment to IHadCancer.com, this also includes support for AlwaysBeNice.com and the Remar Orphanage in El Salvador.
